The “Open Source” system from Swissfeel also combines comfort, hygiene and high recyclability. As an open bed system, it even makes the gap between two mattresses disappear.
Made in Europe: Swissfeel has developed the new “Open Source” bed series to meet all the requirements that a high-quality hotel bed must fulfill today. This term, which originates from information technology, is intended to convey transparently that this is a completely open bed system. In contrast to the closed boxes used in box-spring beds, this is an open “Swiss-Box”, which is designed to score points with interchangeable slat bases and without the gap or “visitor crack” that is otherwise unavoidable with this type of bed. Together with the Swissfeel mattresses produced in Switzerland, this means that the aspects relevant to the guest in terms of ergonomic and climatic sleeping comfort can be fulfilled. At the same time, this bed system makes handling and hygienic care easier for housekeeping, as it has no inaccessible cavities, is easy to transport and can also be repaired if necessary. A simple mechanism prevents it from drifting apart and the seat edge height varies - up to 70 cm high is possible here. Cover materials and colors as well as feet and headboards can be freely selected for the hotel.
“With our innovative Open Source bed collection, we want to reach those hoteliers who are already convinced of the benefits of a combination of foam mattress and real slat base, but have so far stuck with box-spring beds for understandable, practical reasons and due to a lack of alternatives.”
says Christian-Ulf Reschke, member of the management of Swissfeel..
In the private sector, where foam mattresses and slatted frames are the leading products, double beds - unlike in the hotel industry - usually only consist of a bed frame, which is assembled on site. As this is just a bed frame, there is no gap between the mattresses. In the hotel industry, two beds are usually pushed together to form a double bed for reasons of practicality. In beds with an inserted slatted frame, the use of two bed frames therefore creates a gap between the mattresses for structural reasons. This was always at the expense of sleeping comfort.
Philipp Hangartner, Managing Director of Swissfeel AG, adds: “We have now implemented this practical necessity in the hotel industry with Open Source, thus eliminating an old disadvantage. Unfortunately, there are still many prejudices in the hotel industry and beyond against foam mattresses in combination with a separate slat base or slatted frame. But perhaps our industry should take a look at the end consumer market. Here, around 80% swear by precisely this combination. There are reasons for this, primarily in terms of sleeping comfort. But hygiene and sustainability are also aspects where foam mattresses and slatted frames are clearly ahead in our view.”
The beds manufactured entirely in Europe by Swissfeel also do without metal springs and are completely recyclable, including a take-back guarantee from SWISSFEEL-2-CYCLE. Swissfeel, a Swiss manufacturer of fully washable hotel mattresses that has been recognized by EcoVadis for its sustainability, is thus extending its line of permanently hygienic and durable products that are also sustainable, economical and suitable for allergy sufferers.
