Sustainability as the business model of the future: Swissfeel supports sustainable initiatives for hotels

20.02.2025

The GreenSign Community Circle celebrated its premiere with the mattress manufacturer in Berlin. The event focused on the topics of durability, cost-effectiveness and awareness-raising.

At the new event format organized by the GreenSign Institute in the German capital, Swissfeel, specialist for sustainable bed systems and manufacturer of fully washable and recyclable mattresses, underlined how longevity not only protects the environment, but also brings economic benefits. The well-attended industry get-together at the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin offered hoteliers and industry experts a platform for exchanging views on recyclable products and sustainable business practices.

A central element of the GreenSign Community Circle was the panel discussion on the topic of “Shaping the future: Sustainability through longevity”. Experts discussed how sustainable production methods and the circular economy can be implemented in the hospitality industry and what economic benefits result from this.

Christian Ulf Reschke, member of the management board of Swissfeel, contributed his more than 25 years of experience in the home textiles and hotel bed industry as a panel participant. He emphasized the importance of long-lasting products: “40 million mattresses are burned in Europe every year - so after five years, you could build a bridge to the moon from the mattresses. There is therefore huge potential for saving on raw materials.”

Innovative concepts for more sustainability in the industry are increasingly in demand from the hotel industry and guests. Suppliers play a particularly important role here, as durable products in particular often offer financial benefits for hotels over time. Furthermore, sustainability is not a trend, but a decisive factor for the future viability of the hotel industry.

“The first GreenSign Community Circle was a complete success. A valuable exchange at eye level in an open and pleasant atmosphere. The in-depth discussions and new contacts in particular showed how important such encounters are for a strong network. I am already looking forward to the upcoming events and seeing our community again. We would also like to thank Swissfeel for their active support,” added Anne Schiefer, Managing Director of GreenSign Service GmbH.

The event made it clear that sustainability in the hotel industry not only means ecological responsibility, but also offers economic benefits. Investing in circular hotel beds leads to long-term savings and competitive advantages. In addition, the importance of communicating sustainable values was emphasized in order to successfully anchor them in the guest experience and open up new markets. In addition to the panel discussion, the GreenSign Community Circle offered space for networking and intensive exchange. Participants made new contacts and discussed forward-looking ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.

“The hotel industry continues to face the challenge of integrating resource-saving solutions into its business models - for long-term competitiveness and a more sustainable future. The exchange with the industry shows that the willingness is there. The change has therefore begun. We want to continue to provide impetus and actively contribute to driving forward sustainable solutions for the hotel industry,” says Philipp Hangartner, owner of Swissfeel.

With its commitment to the GreenSign Community Circle, Swissfeel wants to send out a clear signal in the future: Sustainability and economic success go hand in hand.
