The German Hotel Academy and Swissfeel are planning a specialised training course as part of a part-time distance learning programme.
The aim is to optimise the core service of hotels - sleep.
As a manufacturer of sustainable hotel bed systems from Switzerland with branches in Germany and Austria, Swissfeel wants to actively support hoteliers in taking sleep in hotels to a new level and developing it further in the future: "That's why we want to create an innovative and comprehensive training programme for sleep sommeliers together with the German Hotel Academy. After all, those who have the appropriate selection and the necessary expertise will be able to provide their guests with more personalised advice for a restful and healthy night's sleep," says Philipp Hangartner, Managing Director of Swissfeel. "Perfection begins exactly where chance ends. Our guests' sleep is too important to leave it to chance."
To ensure a holistic approach, the three circles of sleep health - which include the person, the night and the bed - will be used as the foundation for the sleep sommelier.
In addition to this core building block, general sleep basics and the necessary basic knowledge of materials are also taught. This includes, for example, relevant information on down, feathers or fibres as well as hygiene and allergies.
With the help of this training, sleep sommeliers can thus put themselves in a position to respond to the individual needs of guests based on the options available in the hotel. Case studies are also used in the training programme. In preparation for this, there is an online-based guest enquiry - individually adapted to the possibilities of the respective hotel. This will make it possible to identify and respond to the exact needs of guests before they arrive.
Christian-Ulf Reschke, member of Swissfeel's sales management: "We see the sleep sommelier as an important addition to the hotel industry where the guest should be offered more than the normal standard. We are therefore particularly pleased about the collaboration with the German Hotel Academy."
At the end of this new type of further training as part of a part-time distance learning course at the German Hotel Academy, the Sleep Sommelier can be obtained as a state-recognised qualification with the help of a corresponding examination.
