The Swissfeel sponsorship award, endowed with CHF 2,000, puts sustainable supply chains and circular bed systems in the spotlight as a competitive factor for hotels.
Resort Hof Weissbad from the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden is the winner of the Green Sleeping Award 2026 powered by Swissfeel and, for the first time, adds a hotel from Switzerland to the list of award-winning properties. The award was presented during the evening gala of the industry event hosted by HSMA Deutschland e.V. and honors hotels that implement sustainability consistently where it directly affects the core business of the hotel industry: sleep.
Since its introduction in 2022, the sponsorship award has now been presented for the fifth time. With this, the Green Sleeping Award sends another signal of the growing importance of sustainable procurement and resource-efficient concepts in the hotel industry. While comfort and hospitality remain the central quality promises of a hotel, the responsible use of resources is increasingly determining how businesses are perceived by their guests. “More and more travelers value sustainability and factor it into their choice of accommodation. The Green Sleeping Award gives those hotels a unique selling point whose genuine commitment to sustainability also deserves special recognition when it comes to the hotel bed. Since there is no other piece of equipment in a hotel that matters more to guests, this special award offers the opportunity to win guests over,” says Christian Reschke, member of the management board of Swissfeel.
The fact that sustainable business practices extend far beyond hotel operations themselves was also made clear by bedding expert Jens Rosenbaum from the trade magazine “Schlafen Spezial” in his keynote at HSMAday. “The Green Sleeping Award also shows that sustainability becomes particularly credible where it reaches the guest directly. Namely, in bed. With Resort Hof Weissbad, another hotel has been recognized that consistently lives up to this standard and thereby sends an important signal to the entire industry,” adds Philipp Hangartner, owner of Swissfeel.
For HSMA Deutschland e.V. as well, the award underlines the strategic importance of sustainable solutions for the future of the industry. Anna Heuer, Managing Director of HSMA Deutschland e.V., adds: “We are very pleased that this special award, which touches the core business of the hotel industry with the bed, was once again presented at our event. For us as a trade association, sustainability is an indispensable part of a forward-looking development of the hotel industry.”
With this year's winner, a development that has shaped the Green Sleeping Award since its introduction continues. Following BioHotel WildLand (Lower Saxony), Hotel Rehlegg (Bavaria), Hotel Birke (Schleswig-Holstein), Waldhotel Stuttgart (Baden-Württemberg) and Hotel Schwarzwald Panorama (Baden-Württemberg), Resort Hof Weissbad now extends the list of award-winning properties and at the same time makes it clear that sustainable sleep has long ceased to be a national initiative and has become a mark of quality for the entire hotel industry in the DACH region.
According to her remarks, around 80 percent of a hotel's potential CO₂ savings lie in the supply chain. It is therefore all the more important to select suppliers who can transparently demonstrate their sustainability performance and prove it through recognized certifications. This is precisely where Swissfeel comes in. The Swiss manufacturer of sustainable bed systems holds certifications from EcoVadis and OEKO-TEX as well as from Service Allergie Suisse, a subsidiary of aha! Allergy Center Switzerland, among others. At the same time, with its dual circular system SWISSFEEL-2-CYCLE, the company pursues an approach that combines sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
